(above, left) One of the elaborate fish ladders erected at the dams on the Columbia River and it's tributaries--this one at the Little Goose dam on the Snake River. The 'staircase' of mini-waterfalls is for the adult fish swimming upstream to spawn, while the circular trough is for juvenile fish swimming downstream toward the ocean.
