Chuuk (Truk) 2018

In January/February 2018 a group of 21 went to Truk (Chuuk) Island in Micronesia to dive the fabulous shipwrecks found in the lagoon. Mike Boring was kind enough to undertake organizing this large group. We stayed at and dived out of the excellent Blue Lagoon Dive Resort:

Truk was one of the main Japanese naval bases during the Second World War, and the shipwrecks found here were sent to the bottom in 1944 during carrier raids conducted by the American Navy. This was my fourth trip to this wreck-diving paradise, and it never disappoints! I had visited the island in 1999, 2004 and 2015 previously. You can see that a number of the wrecks are beginning to deteriorate noticeably since I first started coming here, but this is still one of the best wreck diving destinations in the world. If you get the chance, it is not to be missed!

Many of these images have divers in them that really enhance the image composition. Special thanks to Karen Flynn, Mike Powell and Joe Mazraani for their modeling efforts. (They may not have always been aware they were modeling.....but there efforts are truly appreciated.)

All images were taken with a Canon 5DmkIV in a Nauticam housing, or a Canon 5DmkIII in an Aquatica housing, with either Ikellite or Sea & Sea strobes, or Keldan video lights. Images were processed in Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop and Nik Silver Efex Pro 2.
